Tuesday from Claytor Lake

Here's a quick update on Claytor Lake activities for July 11 (Tuesday). Today was a day of firsts: first attempts at water skiing, first day actually sailing, and so on.Weather was great -- a bit warmer than yesterday, and the wind wasn't all that great until the end of the last class...and THEN it picked up and we got a rain shower. Not every scout was please with every activity -- but they all seemed to like at least one or two of them.The scouts did a great job in their second day of sculling. They had to go quite a ways, but most of them got the job done with minimal difficulty. Sean G was quite a trooper and hung in there even though he was getting tired. Wesley in particular seemed to be pretty quick on the boat. Water-skiing was a source of frustration for most of guys. Jon W was able to pop up and ski successfully, and Austin C, Sean G, and Chris D were able to pop up at least briefly. The taller and older kids seemed to have a bit of difficulty...but frankly I was NEVER able to get up on top of the water for more than 3 seconds.Sailing today would have been great if we'd have had a little more wind. It came and went in little baby bursts, as I said earlier.Most of the guys enjoyed motorboating today. The food continues to be pretty good...french toast and cheesy grits this morning, and chilidogs and fresh-baked cookies with lunch. They're all physically tired again, but that's what we're paying for. Everyone continues to have an appropriate number of limbs and eyes, so things are cool. Rick White
