Tuesday Evening Update

Ok, Mr. Barnes called in with another update this evening. All the classes are going great, everyone is enjoying them. The boys in Cooking Merit Badge class will be cooking breakfast and supper for all the campers tomorrow. Speaking of food, it has been good. Spaghetti tonight, hot dogs at lunch - no-one is going hungry! Weather has turned a little cooler, with no rain, which is great!

This afternoon, some of the boys were heading out for Death March II (10 mile hike), and a few more will do Death March 1. Also, several have made it up to Sentinel Peak to check out the view, some by accident! Last night, three of the boys headed out for Comanche Village but got turned around and headed up the peak instead; once they figured out where they were they had a great time and took pictures of themselves. They didn't panic and seemed to be proud of themselves for this. They had all told Mr. Barnes where they were off to, so when they didn't show up later and no-one had seen them, he started down the trail to look for them and met them coming back all smiles with a story to tell. They'd all carried water with them, so none the worse for wear.

Tonight, some are heading to Pioneer Outpost for black powder shooting, others to Cowboy Camp for songs, dutch oven cooking, and branding and a few are hanging out at camp.

Several of the boys have been getting up at 6am each morning to work on the mile swim award - each day they'll double their distance until they swim a mile on Thursday morning.

We have quite a few boys in camp who are Order of the Arrow members, and they volunteered to help with the camp OA Call Out on Wednesday night, so they were asked to build the fire and to help assist with the call out. Should be a great experience, from what I've heard it's a pretty impressive ceremony.

Mr. Barnes said that our youth leadership is doing an excellent job and that the staff has been very complimentary of our boys - I'm very proud of them (wish I was there!).
